Birra Moretti (Heineken) Birra Moretti Zero

drinkNAB Review

Bit too sweet for me

Just like the alcoholic version, I find this a little on the sweet side and couldn't drink more than a couple at a time. If you like the regular, you may well like this. Let us know what you think.

Easy Drinking Lemony-Lager

I picked this up in Sainsbury's the other day, not having read any reviews or having tried it before. I've drunk normal Moretti in the past and enjoyed it. But, having tried a number of non-alcoholic versions of favourite beers, I wasn't holding out much hope for this. I was wrong!

I actually found this drink a refreshing and perfectly drinkable non-alcoholic lager. I hadn't read the ingredients before taking a first sip, so wasn't anticipating the faint zesty taste (presumably from the unspecified 'natual flavouring' mentioned on the label). However, I didn't find this off-putting. I don't know whether this additional flavour was there to mask the sometimes slightly odd taste of alcohol-free lagers. I like to think it was there rather as a point of difference with its competitors - and perhaps particularly that of Heineken 0.0.

Enjoying mine straight from the bottle, I didn't pour it into a glass so can't comment about colour or head.

I wrote about a selection of Spanish non-alcoholic beers which also include a range of Radlers. Birra Moretti Zero is definitely not citrussy enough to fit into that category, but if you're a fan of perhaps a Corona Extra with a wedge of lime, you may well find that Moretti Zero is a really good alcohol-free replacement.

Overall, a really drinkable lager - highly recommended.

Heineken finally make a drink I like...

Birra Moretti is an Italian beer (lager) from the Heineken stable - though I won't hold that against it. A straw gold colour with gentle fizz and a lively head that dies down quickly but stays the course of drinking. Pleasant yeasty smell in the glass. A crisp but not overpowering bite when it hits the tongue with a hint of sweetness coming through after a second or so. The flavour lingers in your month with no unwanted back tastes and gently decays ready for the next mouthful. This beer caught my attention and pleased my taste buds with it first swig and continued to do so to the end of the bottle.
