A Bit Malty

What an unexpected pleasure to find non-alcoholic beer, on tap, in Scarborough of all places! I’m not a regular lager drinker these days, although I do enjoy the occasional cold Kronenbourg on a warm summer’s day.

However, when faced with the usual choice of sugary soft drinks or their low-sugar counterparts, I was almost delighted to find that I could enjoy a pint of nice cold beer whilst listening to a local jazz trio.

Heineken 0.0 is really very normal. And I say that as a compliment. Ok, so it’s not exactly like the original, and the ‘malty notes’ (as the official blurb puts it) may be a little off-putting to some. But for me, Heineken are hitting all the right notes.

Not too fizzy, and with a reasonable head that seemed to last quite well, Heineken’s attempt at a non-alcoholic lager is, in my mind, a success. I’ve been hearing good things about the canned version, but not being a regular NAB drinker I had yet to buy any myself.

I definitely will do in the future.

Heineken 0.0 appears to be just like its alcoholic sibling. Which, is why I say it’s normal. No-one would suspect it was anything other than standard lager. I enjoyed a couple of pints over the course of an evening, and would have gone back for more. I guess the biggest perk is that it was available on tap, in a proper pint glass, and whilst this may not be the norm everywhere I'm sure it will be a far more frequent occurance as the NAB market grows over the coming months.

If you find it available on tap in your local, give it a try - it hits the spot.
